May 13 - June 9, 2024 This course will be taught using our Online/Hybrid format. Each course will consist of 45 hours of online learning, contact with the instructor and outside practicum.


EDUX 5530 (A, B, C, D).  This course focuses on providing strategies to help teachers manage the myriad of issues and pressures they face in the contemporary classroom. From the viewpoint of curriculum planning, participants will work together to develop useful, practical and effective means to confront challenging issues such as family instability, addiction, and peer pressure. This course will examine, difficulties arising from the complexity and stress of the modern world, and include current topics of interest that affect the classroom such as technology, innovations in media, and changes in government mandates.


  • Understand and apply recent trends in education.

  • Plan curriculum that will include an understanding of current problems and possible responses for young people.

  • Develop study projects that can be used at all grade levels to provide information and help with coping mechanisms to avoid the negative impact on students’ present and future lives.

  • Develop group activities with oral and written language emphasis that explore the group dynamics and the parameters of individual responsibility involved.

  • Understand the impact of radical differences of class size and under-funding of other grade levels and programs.

  • Explore the impact of recent trends in family and societal change as they relate to the classroom.

  • Discuss with other educators the impact that current pressures and changes have had on their classrooms and how they have dealt with them.


Course Requirements

Information regarding the specific COURSE REQUIREMENTS will be given the first day of class. 

GRADING:  Things that affect your grade are attendance, promptness, participation in class discussions, quality of work generated, projects completed, and quality of assignments and homework completed.  Active on-task participation is necessary to receive credit.

* Please note that the student may take up to four sections of this same course number designated A, B, C or D.  There are four levels to this course.  These courses must be taken in sequential order (e.g., "A" must be taken before "B").  Students are responsible for knowing which section of the course when enrolling.
