EDUX 5500: MULTICULTURAL APPRECIATION

Course Description


EDUX 5500 (A, B, C, D).  This course provides educators with the opportunity to better understand and appreciate the ethnic and cultural groups of their community through in-depth examination of community environments in which their pupils live. Participants will explore the fusion of cross-cultural influences that define social and political America in celebrating how our diversity makes our classrooms, communities and nation stronger. Information that adds appreciation of our American cultural and political heritage will be covered. Study tours to cultural enriching sites will be part of this class. Participants will gain a better understanding of multicultural education and its critical importance to the success of the schools and our society.
  • Developing an appreciation of the uniqueness of the major ethnic groups that impact American culture.

  • Experiencing first-hand the social and economic conditions in which individual cultural groups live.

  • Gaining insight into the social and cultural values that define specific communities.

  • Becoming aware of specific foods, humor, and cultural observances of many communities.

  • Examining how specific cultures have and will contribute to the fabric of our country.

  • Taking study tours of historical and natural sites highlighting our country. 


Course Requirements

Information regarding the specific COURSE REQUIREMENTS will be given the first day of class. 

GRADING:  Things that affect a student's grade include attendance, promptness, participation in class discussions, quality of work generated, projects completed, and quality of assignments and homework completed.  Active on-task participation is necessary to receive credit.

* Please note that the student may take up to four sections of this same course number designated A, B, C, or D.  There are four levels to this course.  These courses must be taken in sequential order (e.g., "A" must be taken before "B"). Enrolling students are responsible for knowing the section of the course for which they are eligible.
