EDUX 7785 H. In this course, participants will explore ways to build higher-level thinking skills through classroom discussion. Participants will have a clear understanding of how to better engage students in thoughtful discourse in whole-class and small-group discussions. Participants will summarize and evaluate research on the course topic, actively engage in related activities,and establish future goals for their classroom. During this course, students enhance their instructional practice through applying research-based strategies and reflecting on their learning experiences. This course combines educational theory and practical implementation of strategies that develop and use discussion as a tool for engagement, reflection, critical thinking, and academic skills through the use of quality question techniques.
NOTE: Independent Study is an adaptable learning format for teachers to gain university credit as they choose a subject that is of interest to them as well as beneficial for their classroom.
